Job Summary

The main focus of this position is on the management of plant and truck productivity at a Ready Mix Concrete plant. Preventative maintenance must be performed regularly to include visual and audible inspections; therefore, plant manpower planning is critical. Equipment repairs must be scheduled keeping company-wide priorities in mind. Plant modifications and/or upgrades will be considered and developed into projects when properly investigated and justified.

Truck availability is key and requires daily review of driver inspection reports and communication with the maintenance department. Truck cleanliness, concrete buildup, radios and counters and motor vehicle paperwork are direct responsibilities of this position.

With plants and trucks ready to produce, maintenance of material inventory comes into play. Preparations for specific workloads must include close communication with dispatchers to avoid last minute material procurement such as special aggregates, dyes, fiber or admixtures. An overall review of the next day's schedule should provide the basis for plant personnel and driver start times that result in minimum overtime costs. Subordinate training in all of these areas is most important.

A review of daily results will provide the information needed to improve productivity and cost control going forward.

Frequent inventory reconciliation will result in continuous production capability and minimize unexplained losses.

Materials testing will ensure a quality product and reduce lost production time due to specification failures.

Safety and environmental compliance are critical and a direct responsibility of a Plant Manager. Productivity gains can be insignificant if a failure in safety or environmental concerns occurs. Regular inspection of facilities is the preventive measure and communication with employees is the re-enforcement. Adherence to company policies on reporting requirements is critical. In the matter of safety and environment, community relations is as important as a safe, clean plant operation. Involvement in local programs and neighborhood politics improves the perception of our industry, especially in locations that border quiet, residential areas. Managers are expected to be proactive.

As required on specific jobs and as directed by the management of the concrete operations department, plant managers will act as customer service representatives in an effort to support customers when needed and protect the best interested of Superior Concrete Materials, Inc.
